My relationship with coffee began at a very early age. My mother, like many mothers, pre-80's,would give their small children a mixture of coffee, milk and sugar, as a treat.Of course, I was hooked for life! However, as an adult and becoming more aware of my food and beverage choices, I decided the extras in my coffee needed to go. I was not giving up coffee but I found drinking coffee straightwithout any addatives was close to what I thought drinking ground charcoal with swamp water would taste like. So, for over 45 years I have been on the search for a coffee I could say I actually had a cup of coffee rather than a sugary coffee flavored beverage, and that was harder than I thoughtit would be! I tried all of the popular brands as well as their different roast styles. Usually, before I was half way through I was running for the sugar and milk! I even went as far as trying different brewing methods; using a French press, a pour over, a percolator, an air-press, and even an old fashioned stove top metal coffee maker, thinking the issue wasn't the coffee but rather the brewing method. I became rather obsessed with the need to find the "right" coffee for myself. I did find a brand I could tolerate without added sugar but I still needed the cream to combat the bitter after taste. I really do mean I tried practically every coffee on the market.
Three years ago, while attending an event, I was offered the opportunity to try Foxen coffee, Nocturnal dark roast and had an eye opening experience! At last! A coffee that did not leave a bitter after taste, rich and smooth from the first to the last sip:) Believing the vendor had to have done something special to the coffee I purchased a bag, went home, ground my beans and waited with anxious anticipation for the brewing process to finish. Oh! What a lovely surprise to discover the same smoothly rich flavor I had tasted previously!No need for any additives. Just the "real" thing! I was hooked. Three years later it is still my coffee of choice. At last I have found coffee harmony!
